When these two male lions explore this massive hippo carcass, they are looking for something palpable to eat, but crocodiles are nearby and alert the lions. The crocodiles startle one of the lions, but not enough to frighten them away. One of the lions even ventures deeper into the water to examine the hippo, but you can tell it’s cautious and keeps an eye out for crocodiles.

Suddenly, a crocodile leaps out of the water but misses the lion, who doesn’t need another warning to get out of the water. A lion crossing a river is flanked by a hungry crocodile in this video, and after a short scuffle in the water, the feline escapes and runs out of the water without a scratch. Even though the crocodile in this video isn’t very big, it seems like these two lions are not interested in mingling with it.

I could be wrong, but these two look like sub-adults, hence, the reason why they are reluctant and hesitating to attack the small reptile. Had these two been adult lions, the outcome would have been different. It’s dangerous enough to cross rivers during the day in the bush, but these lions take the word “madness” to another level when they decide to enter a waterhole in the middle of the night when it is pitch dark. If you go looking for trouble, trouble will find you, and this lion almost gets snatched by a hungry crocodile but manages to fend the reptile off and escape at the last second. It doesn’t mean because you’re a lion that you can be reckless.
